Under our nose.

JUST finished researching and writing about a local festival in my hometown called "Berwick Gala Days".

I was very un-educated on the background and history of this event and what all gos into making a event such as this one successful, after my research i then discovered that my town as lot of fun events in it and the causes they work for are unbelievable, just the amount of work and help that gos into this, just to read about all the volunteers and business owners that come together to make one event work. They do say many hands make light work . it takes estimated 70 people to organize and help throughout the weekend .
Just to imagine this festival all started my one man for a local park (which is a beautiful park) Rainforest park, Berwick NS . The Man ( H.E. Lindsay) wanted to raise money for this park and had a one day event filled with children's activities and farm shows and parades, followed by a dinner at the local church and ending the evening with a dance at the community hall .
All these events still go on today throughout the weekend with additions of many more fun things !

But if you will just stop and think about how one man wanted something so badly that he went out and made it happen. What a inspiration to everyone from that community ! berwick is FILLED with amazing history and leaders, now this event has grown to become a labour day weekend long festival with large media attention and surrounding community's that come and join in with fund raising for the local sports and club teams throughout the community, helping families who want to help their children in a passion of sports or arts but cant.

this festival has raised in the past up to $30,000 dollars for their community and has seen 7,000 people travel to their town .

I've been to this event every year since i was a little girl but people do not realize how great something is until they step back and education themselves on it . Its amazing to be part of a community that has so much love put into it, grandparents come every year to join in on their past, family's come to start their own traditions for their families and everyone throughout the town stops what their doing that week so that they can help, the town doesn't even need to help the community, they just want too.

I'm proud to be apart of the little town with alot to offer .

until next time ,

jane
